Florida’s Carly Briggs will finish out play for the Gators in the singles draw, as pre-qualifiers and qualifiers come to a close.
CARY, NC – The Gators closed out their final rounds of qualifiers at the ITA All-American Championships in North Carolina. Florida competed in both the singles and doubles draw, challenging themselves in preparation for the ITA Regional Championships which will be hosted in Gainesville later this month.
After an impressive run in the pre-qualifying draw earlier this week, Emily De Oliveira earned a spot in qualifiers facing 82-ranked singles player Dana Guzman (Oklahoma). Being down a set, De Oliveira pushed back in the second to force a tiebreaker but ultimately fell 6-2, 7-6 (7-5).
In the doubles draw, Florida had three teams competing: Carly Briggs/Rachel Gailis, Bente Spee/Sara Dahlstrom, and Malwina Rowinska/Qavia Lopez. All three teams fell short in the round of 64, but both the Briggs/Gailis and Spee/Dahlstrom duos persevered in the consolation bracket, landing in the round of 16.
Play will continue with Carly Briggs in the main draw for singles. Briggs fell earlier today against Vanderbilt’s Celia-Belle Mohr in three sets (2-6, 6-1, 6-1), but will challenge Oklahoma’s Florencia Urrutia tomorrow morning in the consolation round of 16.
