UF WGOLF | Gators Sweep Tar Invitational; Filler First Collegiate Win

Maisie Filler won her first collegiate tournament and finished 13-under, tying the second lowest tournament score in program history.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Florida women’s golf team swept the Tar Heel Invitational behind the Gators second straight win of the season and Maisie Filler’s first collegiate victory on Tuesday.

The Gators shot a 54-hole score of 848 (-16) to mark back-to-back team titles and won the tournament by eight strokes. UF was one of two teams (Auburn, -8) to shoot under par at Governors Club. It also marked the 30th victory under head coach Emily Glasser and the 7th lowest team tournament total – the Gators recorded the program best (835) under Glasser in the 2022 team victory at the FAU Paradise Invitational. Florida has won a tournament every season with Glasser at the helm and seven seasons of multiple wins.

After falling in a playoff for medalist honors last season, Filler captured her first collegiate win today. She shot a score of 13-under 203, which tied the second lowest individual tournament score in program history for the second time in her career – one stroke away from the record of LPGA Tour Player Sam Wagner set in 2016.

In round three, Filler recorded her second round in the 60s (69, -3) this event, marking all three under par this week. Across her 54-holes, she made 33 pars, 16 birdies and one eagle. In the opening round the Palm Beach Gardens native recorded the second lowest round in UF history with a bogey-free 64 (-8). Filler has finished 1st and T2 in the first two tournaments this season.

Fellow senior Annabell Fuller also helped the Gators secure the team title with a final score of 213 (-3). She shot all three rounds even or under par and improved each round: 72-71-70. The 5th year senior made eagle on hole 3, a par-5 of 488 yards. Fuller was one of 12 golfers to make eagle during the week joining Filler who made one in the opening round on hole 7, a par 5 of 516 yards.

Inès Archer played in her second straight event and placed 17th in as many outings. She found her rhythm after she was +4 thru seven holes and went bogey-free with four birdies to finish with a 72 (E), her best round of the week. Fellow freshman Paula Francisco, competing as an individual, also shot a final round of 72 to finish T55 for her best round of the tournament.

Jackie Lucena was the fourth Gator in the lineup to finish in the top-25 in a tie for 24th. She has posted top-25 finishes in two starts: 5-T24. Two shots back of Lucena was Sophie Stevens in T36.

Florida concludes the fall campaign at The Ally from Oct. 23-25 at Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point, Miss.
