CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Florida women’s golf finished the season opener at the Cougar Classic in seventh on Tuesday.
After weather suspended round two yesterday, the Gators completed the remaining holes and round three for a team score of 13-under. The round one of 275 (-9) was the best team round performance by score since a 275 in round two of the Stanford Intercollegiate in 2019.
It was freshman Sophie Stevens who led the lineup throughout the tournament with a T15 outing in her collegiate debut. She posted her second low round with a 69 (-2) in round three to finish 5-under at Yeamans Hall and was tied 6th among the field with 12 birdies.
A stroke separated the next four golfers with Sarunchana Rattanasin placing T31 behind her final round of 1-under 70 to shoot a 211 (-2) followed by Jackie Lucena tied for 34th at 212 (-1). The fifth-year senior (Lucena) recorded all three rounds of even par or better (71-70-71).
The next two Gators featured Maisie Filler (T39) and Paula Francisco (T45) followed by Marina Escobar (T70).
