UF WGOLF: Baggarly Named to U.S. Arnold Palmer Cup Team

Junior Addie Baggarly becomes the first women golfer in program history to be selected.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Junior Addie Baggarly has been tabbed to represent the United States in the 2020 Arnold Palmer Cup, Golf Channel announced Friday. Her selection marks the first in program history for Florida women’s golf.

Currently, the annual Ryder Cup-style competition is slated to take place from July 3-5 at the Lahinch Golf Club in Ireland.

“In these unprecedented times we do not know if the matches will be held as scheduled, postponed, or canceled,” the Arnold Palmer committee said in a release. “However, we would like to recognize the accomplishments of these college golfers since last summer and during this college season.”

As an automatic qualifier, Baggarly joins 23 other athletes, including Florida men’s golf freshman Ricky Castillo on the 2020 U.S. Team. Kate Golden of Texas and Arizona State’s Armen Kirakossian will serve as Team USA’s coaches.

“It is an honor to be named to the USA Team for the Arnold Palmer Cup,” said Baggarly. “Coach Emily (Glaser) and Janice (Olivencia) have pushed me toward this goal all year, and I can’t be more appreciative of their support. I’m super excited to get the chance to play with Ricky (Castillo) as we not only get to represent the United States and Mr. Palmer’s legacy, but the Gators as well.”

Since her freshman year, Baggarly has appeared in 30 tournaments for Florida, notching 14 top-25 finishes, including one individual win.

During the 2019-20 season, the No. 36 collegiate golfer boasted at 72.41 scoring average through seven events. Baggarly also notched 10 under-par rounds over the course of the season, seven of which were in the 60s.
