The Gators wrapped up the regular season, finishing top-7 in all nine tournaments, including three victories, seven top-5 and six top-3 finishes
ATHENS, Ga. – The Florida women’s golf team and Inès Archer both finished runner-up in the regular season finale at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic on Saturday.
The Gators wrapped up the regular season in Athens, finishing top-7 in all nine tournaments, including three victories, seven top-5 and six top-3 finishes. UF also ended with a 2-1 match play record with victories over Pepperdine and UCLA.
Florida had the second-lowest round of the day with a 292 (+4) for a total tournament score of 876 (+12). Auburn (+1) won the event by 11 shots with host Georgia placing third, three shots behind the Gators.
Archer led the lineup with a career-best T2 outing for her third top-10 and fifth top-25 in her first collegiate season. After setting her season-best round with a 67 (-5) in round two, she followed up with a 71 (-1) in the final round for a 54-hole score of 213 (-1). The first-year Gator has recorded back-to-back team-best finishes (T7 at Briar’s Creek). Archer averaged 3.93 (-2) on par3s and 4.83 (-2) on par5s.
Another Gator earning a top-10 was Paula Francisco, tying for 7th. The freshman picked up her fourth top-25 of the season. In the last five starts, the Madrid native has finished T28-T8-T21-T7. Francisco tied for fourth in the field with 10 birdies.
Jackie Lucena was steady throughout the weekend for T14 performance for her best finish of the spring season. She made 39 pars and six birdies across her three rounds. The 5th year had rounds of 73-72-74 for a score of 219 (+3).
Shooting her best round of the tournament, Marina Escobar had a final round of 72 (E), marking an eight-shot improvement from round two. She placed T48 followed by Maisie Filler in T79. Filler heads to Augusta next week, for her second appearance in the Augusta National Women’s Amateur.
The Gators begin postseason play at the SEC Championship form April 12-16 at Belleair, Fla. at Pelican Golf Club.
