Florida women’s basketball senior Nina Rickards has given back to the community in several ways during the 2022-23 campaign.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Florida women’s basketball senior Nina Rickards has been named to the Southeastern Conference Community Service Team, the league announced Wednesday morning.
This marks the 25th year for the SEC Community Service Team for women’s basketball as well as for men’s basketball. All league-sponsored sports have had a Community Service Team since 2004, with at-large teams for men’s and women’s sports being chosen from 1999-2003. The SEC began this concept with a football Community Service Team in 1994.
Rickards has found multiple ways to make a difference in the community while at Florida. The Queens, N.Y., native volunteered with Habitat for Humanity over the summer, alongside fellow members of the Gators women’s basketball team, helping to build homes for families in need of a place to live.
During the early fall, Rickards assisted the Special Olympics of Florida with their visit with Gators’ women’s basketball, while also making time to visit patients in the pediatric cancer unit at Shands Hospital to brighten their day.
The senior is also a member of Gators Lunch Buddies, a program where students eat lunch
with multiple grades and classes at Terwilliger Elementary, in addition to joining the 5th graders for
recess and acting as mentors for all of the students.
Rickards and the Gators will conclude their home portion of the regular season on Thursday, Feb. 23 when they welcome the Alabama Crimson Tide to Exactech Arena at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center for a 6 p.m. ET matchup.
