Women’s DMR Takes Bronze on Opening Day of SEC Indoor Track and Field Championships
The third-place finish in the distance medley and Wanya McCoy’s electrifying first run headline the Gators’ first day of competition in College Station.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Florida Gators Track and Field competed in the first of three days of the SEC Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Fasken Indoor Track and Field on the Campus of Texas A&M on Thursday.

The first day saw only seven of the 32 total events hold a final, with the Gator women ultimately tallying 11 points in the three women’s finals.

Highlights
Sprints
Wanya McCoy, the 2024 SEC Indoor 200m champion, began his title defense with a flourish on Thursday. The Bahamian notched a blazing 20.25-second lap to take the lead over the field, marking a new personal best. The mark stood as both the SEC Championship meet record and facility record, though those marks were eventually reset in a later heat.

Relays
The women’s DMR took SEC Bronze with a 10:55.92 time in the day’s final event, capping Thursday’s efforts with the Gators’ first podium spot. The showing earned Tia Wilson, Gabrielle Matthews, Jessica Edwards and Hilda Olemomoi the No. 4 time in program history in the event.

Wilson’s heat-leading 3:21.92 1200m first leg perfectly positioned the Orange and Blue to secure their eventual six team points.

The men’s DMR squad secured an eighth-place finish with their 9:42.05 performance, tallying the first point for the men.

Jumps
Anthaya Charlton scored the Gators’ first points of the championship season, securing a fouth-place finish worth five team points. Charlton mustered a 6.40m leap on her third attempt, and improved to a 6.47m distance on her final attempt.
