UF T&F: Van Daalen Resets Her Own School Record in Discus on Day One of Florida Relays

Gators total ten personal records on the first day of Pepsi Florida Relays.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – While hosting their first meet of the 2024 season, the Florida Gators found success in a variety of events as the team totaled 17 top ten finishes. Malcolm Clemons, Ethan Geiger and Alida van Daalen all recorded first place finishes in their respective events while eight other Gators tallied personal records.

The summary of top performances and personal records from Friday’s action can be found below.

TOP PERFORMANCES

Alida van Daalen set a new personal record, school record, and Pepsi Florida Relays meet record with her 61.84m/202’10” mark in the women’s discus throw. With her performance, she becomes the first female athlete in school history to eclipse the 200-foot and 60-meter mark in discus throw, with the previous record set at 196’9” and 59.96 meters, also set by van Daalen at the 2023 NCAA Championships. She becomes the active leader in the event in NCAA for the 2024 season.

Florida posted the top two performances of the day in the Men’s Long Jump Invite. Malcolm Clemons set the new top mark in NCAA of the 2024 season at 8.00m/26’3”, while Caleb Foster’s 7.84m/25’8.75” effort netted him the new NCAA No. 4 of the season.

The third and final Gator to place first overall was Ethan Geiger who ended the night with the top finish in the Men’s 5000m. Geiger’s closing lap of 1:01.06 guided him to a personal record finish of 14:11.32 which stands as No. 3 time in the NCAA in 2024.

LET’S GET PERSONAL

Ashton Schwartzman and Ryan McCloskey earned personal records in the Men’s 200m with times of 21.28 and 21.44, respectively.

Eoin McNally and Michael Fiore were another duo that earned personal bests on Friday as they tallied times of 3:48.53 and 3:48.92, respectively, in the Men’s 1500m.

Kendall Brown set a huge personal record in the Women’s Long Jump as her mark of 6.18m/20’3.50” was 0.46m farther than her previous best which she set last week at FSU Relays.

After not competing in the event since 2021, Allison Wilson set a new personal record in the 1500m with a time of 4:27.84, topping her previous best by approximately 14 seconds.

Competing in the 3000m Steeplechase for the first time in her collegiate career, Rylee Pustilnik set a personal record and placed third overall with a time of 10:58.87.

The final personal record of the night came courtesy of Liina Winborn as she finished as the top collegian in the 5000m and came flying across the finish line in 16:44.83.
