Alida van Daalen earned this honor thanks to her performances in the discus throw and shot put this past weekend at the Triton Invitational.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida Gators Women’s Track & Field athlete Alida van Daalen has been tabbed SEC Women’s Co-Field Athlete of the Week, as announced by the Southeastern Conference on Tuesday afternoon. This marks the second time van Daalen has been named SEC Field Athlete of the Week during her collegiate career.
For the second consecutive week, van Daalen reset the University of Florida school record in the discus throw. After becoming the first Gator in program history to break the 60.00m mark, which she accomplished at the Pepsi Florida Relays, she now reached the 62.00m mark as her best throw at the Triton Invitational landed at 62.23m/204’2”. Van Daalen recorded three throws over 61.00m in the contest. Her new personal best measurement places her No. 1 in the NCAA in 2024 in the discus throw.
The sophomore from the Netherlands also recorded a second-place finish in the women’s shot put as she recorded a mark of 18.10m/59’4” which is seventh best in the NCAA this year and third in the SEC.
