Petersen Named as USA Track & Field Coach for Men’s Jumps/Multis at 2024 Olympics
The 2024 Olympics are set to take place from July 26 to August 11.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Nic Petersen, Associate Head Coach for Florida’s Men’s and Women’s Track & Field teams, will represent the United States at the 2024 Paris Olympics as the Men’s Jumps/Multis coach as announced by the USATF – the National Governing Body for the sport of Track & Field in the United States – on Thursday morning.
“I am incredibly honored to be named to the Team USA Olympic staff for Paris 2024. Representing our nation at the pinnacle of athletic achievement is a dream come true. This opportunity is not just a personal triumph, but a celebration of the collective effort and support of my family, fellow coaches and athletes that I’ve been lucky enough to coach who have all helped fuel my journey in coaching. I am ready to wear the red, white, and blue with pride and contribute to the legacy of excellence on the world stage!” – Nic Petersen
Petersen has had an outstanding coaching career with the Gators. In his eleven full seasons with the program the Gators have recorded 21 men’s and women’s individual titles since his arrival in 2013, including seven from Jasmine Moore (2022-2023), two from Yanis David in 2019, three from KeAndre Bates in 2017 and seven from Marquis Dendy (2012-2015).
In recent history Petersen coached the men to ten points at the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Championships which contributed to the program’s 14th National Title.
In 2023, he coached Jasmine Moore to her second consecutive season of winning conference and national championships in both the long jump and triple jump, a feat that had only been achieved by her. Moore added three more titles in the outdoor season as she was the SEC Champion in both the long jump and triple jump and the NCAA Champion in the triple jump.
Under Petersen’s guidance, Moore became the first woman in NCAA history to win four conference and four national titles in the horizontal jumps during the same calendar year, which she achieved in 2022.
Lastly, in 2015, Marquis Dendy won The Bowerman following his successful Florida career under Petersen’s leadership. From 2012-2015, Dendy won seven National Championships in the long jump and triple jump. His historic 2015 season saw him take all four national titles in the previously mentioned events.
In addition to his success at the collegiate level, Petersen has also helped guide seven different athletes to the World Championships and/or Olympics during his time as a jumps coach.
