Gators Finish the Regular Season at the LSU Invitational and East Coast Relays

Florida earned five gold, four silver, and six bronze finishes at the LSU Invitational and East Coast Relays

BATON ROUGE, La./JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – This weekend Florida faced off against some of the top teams in the nation as they concluded their 2023 outdoor regular season. The Gators competed at the LSU Invitational and East Coast Relays to close their season. Florida collected five gold, four silver, and six bronze finishes at the meets.

Florida concludes the LSU Invitational and East Coast Relays with 11 new outdoor or overall personal bests. Six of these career performances came on the track, with an additional five more in the field.

Next up for the Gators is the SEC Outdoor Championships on May 11-13 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Saturday’s Finals Recap

Discus

Men- The pairing of Calvin Bostic and Logan Montgomery competed in the men’s discus competition. Logan Montgomery placed tenth with a mark of 45.68m/149’10”. Bostic finished fourteenth (44.93m/147’5″).

Women- Alida van Daalen secured gold in the women’s discus competition with a mark of (56.86m/186’6″). Van Daalen has not finished off the podium in any discus competition this season. Da’Moni Kelly threw a new personal best (45.50m/149’3), which helped her to a ninth-place finish. Akari Isaac finished twelfth (36.94m/121’2″).

Hammer Throw

Women- In the first event of the day for the Gators, Imani Washington finished ninth, throwing a new personal best (56.23m/184’5″).

Shot Put

Men- Logan Montgomery has continued to improve over the course of his freshman year. On his final throw of the day at the LSU Invitational, Montgomery threw the seventh best mark in school history (19.04m/62’5.75″) to help him secure bronze in the men’s shot put. His throw was the twenty third farthest in the country this year. Calvin Bostic also threw a new personal best (17.20m/56’5.25″) and finished seventh.

Women- The trio of Alida van Daalen, Thea Jensen, and Da’Moni Kelly competed in the women’s shot put competition. Van Daalen earned bronze (17.45m/57’3″), securing her third podium finish of the outdoor season in shot put. She has finished third or better in every outdoor shot put competition she has competed in as a Gator. Jensen placed eleventh (13.96m/45’9.75″) and Kelly finished thirteenth (13.88m/45’6.5″).

Javelin

Men- Devin Willis tossed a new personal best (59.51m/195’3″) to secure a fifth-place finish in the javelin competition.

Long Jump Invite

Men- Malcolm Clemons soared to gold in the long jump invite. Clemons mark of 7.96m/26’1.5″ had a wind speed of 2.7 meters per second and since it was over 2.0 his jump was not wind legal nor eligible for records. Had it been legal, Clemons’ jump would have been the tenth longest jump in school history and a new personal best. Caleb Foster finished in the event (7.71m/25’3.5″).

Long Jump

Men- Jalen Chance (7.17m/23’6.25″) finishes fifth and Jordan McCants (7.07m/23’2.5″) finishes seventh in the men’s long jump competition. Chance’s fifth place finish was his best of the outdoor season.

Women- Claire Bryant earns bronze in the women’s long jump (6.52m/21’4.75″), securing her third top-3 finish of the outdoor season.

Triple Jump

Men- Michael Holloway II finishes sixth in the triple jump competition (15.19m/49’10”).

Women- Senior Jasmine Moore earned bronze in the triple jump with a mark of 13.77m.45’2.25″. Fellow triple jumper Alissa Braxton placed sixth (12.65m/41’6″).

High Jump

Men- Corvell Todd secured second (2.10m/6’10.75″), earning his third consecutive silver in the high jump.

Women- Sterling Lester finishes sixth in the women’s high jump with a season best mark of 1.69m/5’6.5″.

100m

Men- Jacory Patterson finished tenth in the men’s 100m competition. His time of 10.26, ties his season best in the event. Jalen Chance finished twenty-ninth (10.75) and Robert Gregory finished thirty-first (11.36).

Women- Kynnedy Flannel finishes ninth (11.28) with the seventh fastest time in school history. Grace Stark earned twelfth (11.38), setting a new personal best. Jasmine Montgomery placed twenty-third (11.57).

100m Hurdles

Women- Imani Carothers finished thirteenth in the 100m hurdles with a season best time of 13.42.

110m Hurdles

Men- Caleb Foster placed fourteenth in the 110m hurdles (14.56).

200m

Men- Pjai Austin placed sixth in the 200m (20.79). His time was a new personal best.

Women- Five Gators competed in the women’s 200m competition. Jayla Hollis was the top Florida finisher, placing twelfth (23.41). Finishing just behind Hollis, Jasmine Montgomery finished thirteenth (23.41). Ramiah Elliot finished eighteenth (23.62), Sterling Lester finished twenty-ninth (24.03), Kayla Davis finished thirty-second (24.52).

400m

Men- Florida takes gold and silver in the men’s 400m. Ryan Willie crossed the finish line first with a new outdoor personal best of 44.93, which ties his overall PR in the 400m. His time was the second fastest in the country this year and fourteenth fastest in the world. Emmanuel Bamidele finished second with the tenth fastest time in school history (45.06). Bamidele’s time was also the fourth fastest in the nation this year and sixteenth fastest in the world. Jevaughn Powell (47.08) and Jacob Miley (48.02) finished fourteenth and twenty fifth respectively.

Women- Talitha Diggs earns bronze (51.51) in the women’s 400m. Ramiah Elliott (54.08) and Kayla Davis (55.11) finish twelfth and sixteenth respectively.

400m Hurdles

Men- Collin Sieffert finished eleventh in the 400m hurdles (52.11).

800m
Women- Vanessa Watson earned silver in the 800m (2:05.33). Watson’s time was a new personal best.

4×100 Relay
Men- The 4×100 team of Ryan Willie, Jacory Patterson, Pjai Austin, and Robert Gregory finished second (38.69) in the relay.

EAST COAST RELAYS MEET

Saturday’s Finals Recap

400m

Men- Sam Austin made his 400m debut at the East Coast Relays, finishing sixteenth (48.39).

800m

Men- In the men’s 800m, seven Gators competed. Ryan Maseman placed fifth (1:50.07) leading the way for Florida. Caden Monk (1:50.07), Adrian Bichara (1:51.32), and Matt Mule’ (1:51.49) all finished in the top-20, finishing tenth, fourteenth, and sixteenth respectively. Michael Fiore placed twenty-first (1:52.82), Chase Ruskin finished twenty-eighth (1:54.09), and Deshay Fernandes finished sixty-fourth (2:00.26).

Women- Gabrielle Wilkinson led the Gators in the women’s 800m, securing sixth (2:05.64). Jess Edwards ran a new personal best and finished sixteenth (2:12.21). Emily Culley finished twenty-third (2:14.35).

1500m

Men- Three Gators finished in the top sixteen of the men’s 1500m. Caden Monk earned fourth (3:47.13), Michael Fiore (3:51.21) placed ninth, and Hugh Brittenham (3:54.79) finished sixteenth.

Women- Gabrielle Wilkinson earned her first event title of the outdoor season, finishing first in the women’s 1500m (4:18.63). Kathryn Nohilly continues her strong outdoor season, placing fourth (4:26.11). Emily Culley also finished strong earning sixth with a time of 4:28.26. The final Gator to compete in the 1500m was Rylee Pustilnik who placed twenty-first (4:40.77).

5K

Men- Four Gators competed in the men’s 5K. Cavan Wilson was the top Florida finisher, placing third (14:43.70). Aiden Villasuso was the second Gator to cross the finish line, securing twelfth (15:05.58). Josh Stern (15:14.61) and Ryan Miller (15:15.54) finished eighteenth and nineteenth respectively.

Women- In her first race of the outdoor season, Parker Valby dominated the competition, finishing first with a time of 15:32.44. Valby finished 57 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher Hayleigh Haid from Jacksonville.
