Day One of the Tom Jones Memorial Comes to a Close
Florida recorded 16 new personal bests on the first day of the Tom Jones Memorial
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The first day of the Tom Jones Memorial started with Jasmine Moore winning yet another long jump title. Moore competed in her first competition since winning the NCAA Indoor long and triple jump titles. Her jump of 6.98m/22’10.75″ would have been a school record had it had been wind legal. Claire Bryant joined Moore on the long jump invite podium finishing third (6.75m/22’1.75″). Malcolm Clemons also finished third on the men’s side of the long jump invite competition (7.76m/25’5.5″).
The Gators finished three other competitors on the podium. Corvell Todd earned silver for the second consecutive meet (2.14m/7’0.25″) and has finished on the podium in the high jump in all three outdoor competitions he has competed in as a Gator. Alida van Daalen continued her incredible freshman campaign finishing second in the shot put invite (18.14m/59’6.25″), earning the Dutch field athlete a new outdoor personal best. Robert Gregory rounded out the podium finishers, placing second in the 200m (19.78).
Florida finished the first day of competition with 16 new outdoor or overall personal bests. 13 of these career performances came in the men’s and women’s 1500m events.
Tomorrow the Gators start the second day of the Tom Jones Memorial at 9:00 a.m. ET with Akari Isaac, Thea Jensen, and Da’Moni Kelly competing in the women’s discus followed by the men’s discus featuring Logan Montgomery and Calvin Bostic. Running events will begin at noon with the women’s 100m hurdles. Florida will compete in 19 events on day two of the competition.
The remaining 13 seniors who were not honored today will be recognized in a senior day ceremony tomorrow at 11 am.
