UF T&F: Clemons Places Third and Totals Six Points; Two Relays and Four Individuals Advance to Finals

Gators Men’s Track & Field concludes Day One of the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon.

EUGENE, Ore. – The Florida Gators totaled six points courtesy of Malcolm Clemons and had four individuals and two relays qualify for the finals during the first day of competition at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

Clemons opened the scoring for the Gators with a third-place finish in the Men’s Long Jump. A year after placing fourth at the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Championships, the redshirt junior now finds him a spot higher on the podium. His best mark of the series, 8.05m/26’5”, was a season-best for Clemons and secured six points for the team.

Other Gators that advanced in their semifinal round competition include: Wanya McCoy (100m, 200m), Robert Gregory (200m), Jevaughn Powell (400m), Reheem Hayles (400m) as well as the 4x100m and 4x400m Relay Teams.

HOW IT HAPPENED – FINALS
Men’s Long Jump
In addition to Clemons’s finish, Sean Dixon-Bodie finished 11th in the event recording a mark of 7.60m/24’11.25” and earning Second-Team All-American honors. He will continue competition on Friday in the Men’s Triple Jump.

Men’s Hammer Throw
Will Gross IV concluded his 2024 outdoor season by recording a mark of 64.68m/212’2” in Wednesday’s action. For advancing to the National Championship for the second time in his collegiate career, Gross IV receives All-American Honorable Mention status. Gross IV’s strong 2024 season was highlighted by recording the No. 6 mark on the UF All-Time Top 10 List and claiming an SEC Outdoor Championships Bronze Medal in the Hammer Throw.

Men’s Javelin
Competing in his first-ever NCAA Championship, Abraham Sargent also earned All-American Honorable Mention honors as he landed a throw of 68.97m/226’3”. This concludes a strong outdoor season for Sargent as he holds the No. 5 mark in UF History in the Javelin and was an SEC Silver Medalist at the Outdoor Championships.

HOW IT HAPPENED – SEMIFINALS
Men’s 4x100m Relay
The quartet of Jevaughn Powell, Wanya McCoy, Malique Smith-Band and Robert Gregory earned the second-fastest time in the semifinal of the 4x100m Relay to auto-qualify to Friday’s finals. Their time of 38.45 is a season-best for the group and the No. 5 time in Florida history.

4x100m Finals: Friday, 9:02 p.m. ET

Men’s 1500m
Parvej Khan fell just 0.03 seconds short of qualifying for the finals in the 1500m. The freshman concluded his outstanding first year with the Gators by recording a time of 3:40.10 in the semifinal. Highlights from Khan’s season included winning two medals at the conference championship (1500m Gold, 800m Bronze), two UF All-Time Top 10 marks and being named the SEC Men’s Freshman Runner of the Year.

Men’s 100m
After helping the 4x100m team advance to the finals, McCoy secured his first individual bid to the finals by running a time of 10.15. His time earned him a seventh-place finish in the semifinal round.

100m Finals: Friday, 9:52 p.m. ET

Men’s 400m
The two Gators competing in the 400m semifinal, Powell and Hayles, will both appear in Friday’s finals. Powell earned an auto-qualifying bid by finishing second in Heat 2, crossing the finish line in 45.17. Hayles snatched the final spot in the final with a time of 45.59.

400m Finals: Friday, 10:02 p.m. ET

Men’s 200m
Just as they did in the 400m, the Gators secured two spots in the 200m final. Gregory and McCoy were the duo to capture said spots. Gregory auto-qualified by running a season-best time of 20.15 and placing second in his heat. McCoy also auto-qualified with a second-place finish in Heat 3 and a time of 20.22.

200m Finals: Friday, 10:37 p.m. ET

Men’s 4x400m Relay
Competing in the first of three heats, the Men’s 4x400m team of Hayles, Prude Jr., McKiver and Powell cruised to a first-place finish in their heat earning them an automatic bid to the finals. The team recorded a time of 3:01.78 which featured splits of 45.81, 45.45, 44.31 and 46.22.
