Maha Amer breaks 1-meter diving school record
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The No. 3/11 ranked Florida men’s and women’s swimming and diving team secured sweep number two on the season, downing SEC foe and No. 13/7 ranked Tennessee. The women’s team registered its second consecutive ranked win, 204.0-96.0, while the men bounced back with a 171.5-128.5 victory. The women improve to 4-1 (2-0 SEC) this season, while the men move to 3-1 (1-0 SEC).
The Gators won 21 events, the women winning 12 and the men claiming nine.
Women’s 1-meter, 3-meter diving
Maha Amer broke a six-year school record in the 1-meter, scoring a 350.55, breaking former Gator and current grad assistant dive coach Kahlia Warner’s dive of 346.10 set back in 2016.
Elettra Neroni claimed first in the 3-meter with a 339.98, just ahead of Carina Lumia’s 312.75.
Men’s 1-meter, 3-meter diving
The reigning SEC Men’s Diver of the Week Skip Donald claimed the victory in the 1-meter, tallying a score of 349.12 to edge out teammate Anton Svirskyi, who placed second at 334.95
Women’s 200 Medley Relay
A final burst on the last leg gave Florida’s A relay team of Katie Mack, Nina Kucheran, Talia Bates, and Ekaterina Nikonova the victory with a time of 1:39.32. The B relay team of Aris Runnels, Tylor Mathieu, Amanda Ray, and Micayla Cronk touched the wall in 1:41.53 to finish third.
Men’s 200 Medley Relay
The A relay team of Adam Chaney, Aleksas Savickas, Eric Friese, and Joshua Liendo placed second, finishing in 1:26.61. Florida’s C relay team finished fourth, B team in fifth, and D team in sixth.
Women’s 1000 free
Florida continued its strong performance in the distance races, as Anna Auld (9:47.17) and Hayden Miller (9:47.95) went 1-2 to secure the top spots for the Gators. Elise Bauer finished in fourth at 9:56.91, and Leah DeGeorge was in seventh with a 10:07.96.
Men’s 1000 free
The Gators went 1-2-3, led by Alfonso Mestre’s 9:04.97 time to lead the rest of the field. Eric Brown finished second with a 9:06.17, with Brennan Gravley behind him with a 9:08.94 in third. Jack VanDeusen finished fifth with a time of 9:16.77.
Women’s 200 Free
Ekaterina Nikonova took first with a 1:45.75 and Micayla Cronk finished second, touching the wall in 1:47.07. The Gator duo both recorded B-cuts.
Men’s 200 Free
Florida claimed three of the top four finishes, led by Macguire McDuff’s 1:36.61 to win the event, ahead of Jake Mitchell’s second place finish at 1:36.74 and Oskar Lindholm, who finished in fourth with a 1:37.31.
Women’s 100 Back
Talia Bates finished second, touching the wall in 53.97, while Aris Runnels recorded a third-place finish at 54.66.
Men’s 100 Back
Adam Chaney posted a B-cut time of 47.50 to win the event, while freshman Cameron Abaqueta finished fourth with a 49.79.
Women’s 100 Breast
Three Gators finished in under a second from each other. Nina Kucheran came in second at 1:02.24, just ahead of Olivia Peoples’ third place finish of 1:02.64. Tylor Mathieu’s time of 1:02.96 put her in fifth.
Men’s 100 Breast
Aleksas Savickas, who was named SEC Men’s Freshman of the Week on Monday, finished second with a time of 54.01. Julian Smith touched the wall in 54.33 to finish fourth.
Women’s 200 Fly
The Gators claimed the top-three spots, led by Joaquin Gonzalez Pinero’s first place finish at 1:46.11. He and Mason Laur, second place with a 1:46.31, both registered B-cuts. Kevin Vargas touched the wall in 1:47.85, tied for third.
Women’s 50 Free
Talia Bates (22.82) and Katie Mack (22.86) went one-two, while Georgia Bates finished in fifth at 23.83.
Men’s 50 Free
Joshua Liendo continued his scorching start to the season in the event, finishing 19.34 to win the highly competitive 50 free. Alberto Mestre posted a sub-20 second time at 19.90 to finish in third.
Women’s 100 Free
The Gators claimed the top three spots, led by Ekaterina Nikonova’s first place finish at 49.51. Katie Mack’s time of 49.63 put her in second, while Micayla Cronk finished right behind her at 49.94.
Men’s 100 Free
Macguire McDuff posted a B-cut time of 43.03 to finish second, ahead of teammates Julian Smith and Alberto Mestre, who placed second and third, respectively.
Women’s 200 Back
Mabel Zavaros registered a 1:57.04 to claim a B-cut, while the SEC Women’s Freshman of the Week Zoe Dixon came in third at 1:57.12. Aris Runnels posted a top-five finish at 2:00.81.
Men’s 200 Back
Adam Chaney tallied a second-place finish with a time of 1:47.42, and Mason Laur secured two team points with a fourth-place finish at 1:48.56.
Women’s 200 Breast
Florida was led by Tylor Mathieu, who came in second at 2:15.42, and Nina Kucheran, who’s time of 2:16.01 put her in third. Molly Golding finished in fifth at 2:21.88.
Men’s 200 Breast
Aleksas Savickas swam a B-cut time of 1:56.54 to finish second, while Kevin Vargas and Raphael Rached Windmuller finished fourth and fifth.
Women’s 500 Free
The Gators claimed the top three spots of the event, led by freshman sensation Hayden Miller, who’s B-cut time of 4:45.49 was over three seconds ahead of the rest of the field. Anna Auld finished in second at 4:49.09, Elise Bauer placed third with a 4:51.49. The Gator trio finished nearly three seconds in front of any Volunteer.
Men’s 500 Free
Florida recorded three of the top five spots, led by Alfonso Mestre’s 4:21.16 B-cut time. Eric Brown finished third at 4:26.29, while Oskar Lindholm’s 4:30.43 put him in fifth.
Women’s 100 Fly
Olivia Peoples (53.90) and Aris Runnels (54.62) went one-two, while Amanda Ray finished fourth at 55.42.
Men’s 100 Fly
Eric Friese posted a time of 47.32, leading him to a second-place finish, while Joshua Liendo finished third, touching the wall in 47.39.
Women’s 200 IM
Zoe Dixon led the way, finishing 2:00.05 to claim first, while Kathleen Golding’s 2:02.20 put her in third, ahead of Mabel Zavaros, who came in fourth at 2:02.30.
Men’s 200 IM
Julian Smith led the way, as the Gators secured the top three spots. Smith’s time of 1:46.79 put him just ahead of Joaquin Gonzalez Pinero (1:47.93) and Kevin Vargas (1:48.10).
Women’s 400 Free Relay
The A relay team of Talia Bates, Micayla Cronk, Katie Mack, and Ekaterina Nikonova won the event by over seven seconds with a time of 3:17.70.
Men’s 400 Free Relay
The A relay team of Macguire McDuff, Joshua Liendo, Eric Friese, and Alberto Mestre completed the 400 free relay sweep for the Gators with a time of 2:52.49. The B relay team of Adam Chaney, Edward Fullum-Huot, Alfonso Mestre, and Oskar Lindholm finished third, touching the wall in 2:59.17.
The Gators will be off this week before heading to the Georgia Invite from Nov. 17-19 in Athens, Ga.
