UF S&D: Nesty Named Head Coach for USA Men’s Swim Team at 2024 Olympics

The 2024 Paris Olympics is scheduled to take place from July 26 to August 11.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Anthony Nesty – head coach for Florida’s men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams – added another addition to his lengthy resume on Thursday, as USA – the National Governing Body for the sport of swimming in the United States – announced Thursday that Nesty will serve as head coach for the U.S. men’s swim team at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

“I am genuinely honored and equally humbled by this recent appointment.  I wish to thank Tim Hinchey, CEO (USA Swimming) and Lindsay Mintenko, National Team Director (USA Swimming), for giving me this prestigious opportunity. Coach Anthony Nesty’s efforts in Tokyo helped lead his University of Florida swimmers Bobby Finke and Kieran Smith to three medals, including two gold. Nesty’s Florida collegiate and pro groups combined to send seven swimmers to the 2022 World Championships in Budapest, where they claimed 12 medals. The USA Swimming men’s squad tallied 20 total medals and sent two Americans to the podium in six individual events.

Nesty is joined by Todd DeSorbo, who will be the U.S women’s head coach.

An accomplished Olympic athlete in his own right, Nesty was the first black swimmer to win an Olympic gold medal in 1988 and was the first medalist for his native Suriname.

The reigning SEC Coach of the Year served as the 2023 World Aquatics Championships men’s assistant coach and the 2022 FINA World Championships men’s head coach a year ago, the first time he held the distinction of as head coach of a U.S. team at an international competition.

The Team USA pool roster for the Olympic Games Paris 2024 will be decided at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Swimming, set for June 15 – 23, 2024 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana. More information about the Trials can be found here.

The Paris Olympic Games pool competition will be held July 27 – August 4, 2024, while the open water swimming competition will take place August 8-9, 2024.
