Katie Ledecky Receives Athletes for Hope Community Hero Award
Gators Volunteer Coach served as a support advocate for the Refugee Olympic swim team and as a U.S. Department of State goodwill ambassador in Tokyo and Seoul

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Gators Volunteer Coach Katie Ledecky received the Community Hero of 2022 award at the Athletes for Hope – Play For Good Ceremony in Springfield, Virginia last week. Last year’s award winner and NBA Champion Steph Curry presented her the award via video.

Athletes for Hope was founded in 2006 by a group of athletes, including Muhammad Ali, Jeff Gordon, and Alonzo Mourning, among others, who all shared a deep commitment to helping others.

Ledecky was recognized for her role in the promotion of STEM education for youth, and has also worked with past charitable organizations such as Bikes For the Word, Wounded Warriors, Shepard’s Table, Jesuit Refugee Service, and Horizons Greater Washington.

At the Tokyo Olympics, Ledecky was a support advocate for the Refugee Olympic swim team and was a U.S. Department of State goodwill ambassador, where she donated swim suits and gear to over 800 children in Tokyo and Seoul.

Ledecky is in her second season on the Florida Swimming and Diving staff, and the Gators continue their season on October 22nd against the Virginia Cavaliers in Charlottesville.
