The senior is one of 10 to be named to College Sports Communicators 2023-24 Academic All-America ® Men’s Swimming & Diving Team’s First-Team.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida swimmer Jake Mitchell tabbed First-Team Academic All-American honors, as selected by College Sport Communicators (CSC) on Wednesday.
The senior is a Health Education and Behavior major with a 3.68 GPA. He competed in four events at this year’s NCAA National Championships, where the Florida men put together a team effort to finish third in the Nation with 378 points to marks the second-best score in program history. Jake earned three All-American honors after placing in the top 16 in the 200-yard Free, 500-yard Free and 800 Free Relay.
The native of Carmel, Indiana was a member of the winning 800 Free Relay Team at this year’s SEC Championships, along with placing second in the 500-yard Free, fourth in the 200-yard Free and sixth in the 1650-yard Free.
Mitchell represented Team USA at the 2020 Olympic Games in Toyko, where he finished eighth in the men’s 400m Freestyle. He is set to compete at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Indianapolis, IN. The meet begins on June 15 and concludes June 23.
Seven of the 30 members of the Academic All-America® Division I men’s swimming & diving teams boast a perfect 4.0 GPA in their undergraduate work or graduate school. The 10 members of the first team have an average GPA of 3.89.
