Amer, Garcia, and Donald all are set for NCAA Championships
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Three more tickets were punched during the third night of the 2023 NCAA Zone B Diving Championships at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center. Maha Amer and Leonardo Garcia qualified for the second-consecutive day, while Skip Donald’s platform performance will give him a chance to medal in Minneapolis later this month.
Amer led off the morning with a seventh-place finish in the 3-meter final, scoring a 649.45. With her qualification in the 1-meter yesterday, the Cairo, Egypt native will go for all three tickets in tomorrow’s platform. Carina Lumia finished 12th with a 608.10 after making it to the final session.
Garcia is now slated to compete in all three diving events at the National Championships following a 748.20 and a fourth-place finish in the platform this evening. Garcia, who won bronze in the platform at the SEC Championships last month, qualified for the 3-meter yesterday, and since he finished in the top-12 of the 1-meter on Sunday, can compete in all three events in Minneapolis.
Donald secured the final spot in NCAA qualifying today, finishing ninth with a score of 697.60 for her first punched ticket as a Gator. After finishing 11th in the 1-meter and 10th in the 3-meter, Donald will now have the chance to compete in all three events during the NCAA Championships, giving the Gator men more chances at scoring points towards a team title.
During the morning prelims, Casey Greenberg finished 26th in the 3-meter at 259.40 in her first career zones action. Elisha Dees finished 21st in the platform at 275.50.
The final day of Zone B is set for 11 a.m. tomorrow with the women’s platform. All action can be seen on SECN+.
