Gators Primed for U.S. Open
The 2023 Toyota U.S. Open will take place from Nov. 29 – Dec. 2 in Greensboro, NC
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Following a successful fall campaign, select Florida men’s and women’s swimming and diving team members will compete in the 2023 Toyota U.S. Open from Nov. 29 – Dec.2 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, NC. Competition begins Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. Thursday-Saturday prelims will begin at 9 a.m. with finals starting at 6 p.m.
This event has been approved by World Aquatics as a qualifying event for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The Gators will send eight current swimmers, five former Gators and former volunteer coach Katie Ledecky, while four members from the 2024 signing class will also compete in the long-course meter event sessions, giving the group opportunities to race in an Olympic sized pool.
On the professional side, Bobby Finke, Caleb Dressel, Kiernan Smith, Mark Szaranek and Natalie Hinds as well as former volunteer coach Katie Ledecky will compete in at least two events, with Ledecky and Finke in four events.
Emma Weyant highlights the meet with six entries, including the 800m free on the opening day Wednesday along with Ledecky.
Bella Sims, five-time SEC Women’s Freshman of the Week, will compete in three events, along with fellow freshman Molly Mayne. Florida’s third freshman Melissa Cowen is set to compete in the 100m breast and the 200m IM.
Florida will have five men compete, with Eric Brown competing in the 800m free on Wednesday.
Jake Mitchell, Joshua Liendo, Adam Chaney and Macguire McDuff will open up their competition on Thursday with the 400m free and 50m free.
Florida also have four future Gators competing, as a handful of the 2024 signing class will look to make a mark. Gracie Weyant, Addison Reese, Sofia Plaza and Luke Whitlock all will compete in at least two events.
