UF S&D: Gators Earn Five Top-16 Finishes on Day 2 of NCAA Championships

Florida sits in seventh after the first two days of competition

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Florida Gators women’s swimming and diving team collected five more All-American honors during the second day of the 2023 Women’s NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.

Emma Weyant secured a sixth-place finish in the 500 free, clocking a 4:38.46 to earn All-American honors in just her fourth meet as a Gator.

In the B-final of the 500 free, Mabel Zavaros finished third, 11th overall, with a 4:40.40 while Tylor Mathieu finished seventh in the race, 15th overall at 4:41.18 as the Gator B-final duo earned honorable mention All-American honors.

Florida’s 200 free relay team of Ekaterina Nikonova, Talia Bates, Katie Mack and Micayla Cronk swam a 1:27.31 to win the second of three heats, and finish seventh overall to earn 24 points towards the team score. Thursday’s race marked the second-straight All-American honors on a relay for Nikonova, Bates, and Cronk after securing honorable mention honors in last night’s 800 free relay.

Maha Amer tallied a 304.85 in the 1-meter B-final to finish fourth in the final, 12th overall, and was named an honorable mention All-American. Amer is an All-American for a second-consecutive season. The Cairo, Egypt native finishes her senior campaign on the 1-meter with All-American honors, a program record and a silver medal at SEC’s last month.

Florida moved up four spots on the second day of competition, and sit at 76 points heading into the third day of championship swimming on Friday.

500 Free Prelim
Emma Weyant swam a 4:39.51 to finish eighth overall and advance to the A final. Mabel Zavaros (4:40.54) and Tylor Mathieu (4:40.62) both qualified for the B final after finishing 12th and 14th, respecitevly, in the morning session.

Anna Auld went 4:44.36 for 42nd, just ahead of Hayden Miller in 47th with a 4:45.14. Camille DeBoer’s 4:49.18 put her in 65th.

200 IM Prelims
Freshman Zoe Dixon posted a team-best 1:56.98 to finish 27th, while Aris Runnels finished in 38th after clocking a 1:57.37. Kathleen Golding finished 44th at 1:58.05, just ahead of Nina Kucheran’s 1:58.37 time for 47th overall.

50 Free Prelims
Katie Mack led the Gators with a 22.24, finishing in 24th. Talia Bates clocked a 22.45 in the third heat for 42nd, while Ekaterina Nikonova (22.50) finished 45th and Micayla Cronk (22.64) placed 50th.

1-Meter Prelims
Maha Amer used a final dive score of 50.4 to qualify for the B-final, finishing 16th with a total score of 267.65. Amer totaled four dives with a score of 50 or better during the preliminary session.
