Indianapolis, Ind. – The Florida men set the tone on night one of the 2024 NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships, with two top-five finishes in the 200 medley relay and the 800 freestyle relay inside the IU Natatorium Wednesday night.

Seeded second, the 200 medley relay team came off the blocks with vengeance. Adam Chaney’s 20.29 backstroke split set the tone and put Florida up with No. 1 seed Arizona State, NC State and California. Julian Smith’s 22.55 breaststroke time kept the Gators neck-and-neck to give Josh Liendo the opportunity for the top spot with his 18.97 in the 50 fly. Macguire McDuff brought the Title home after finishing his 50 free at 18.34. This marks the second 200 Medley Relay Title in program history and set a new NCAA, Championship Meet, U.S. Open and Program record.

The 800 freestyle relay capped off the night with yet another remarkable performance from the Gators. Jake Mitchell put together a 1:30.89 as the anchor to move from sixth place to third place in the final heat with a flat 6:08.00. Florida earned fourth place overall, improving from last year’s fifth place. The 6:08.00 ties the Gators second-best time in program history, which was set in 2022 by Smith, Freeman, Lindholm and Mestre.
