UF S&D: Florida Secures All Six Weekly SEC Honors

Joshua Liendo, Conor Gesing, Jonny Marshall, Emma Weyant, Ana Monroy and Bella Sims all earn conference honors.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The No. 3/7 ranked Florida Gators Men’s and Women’s Swim and Dive team swept the weekly SEC honors, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon. Joshua Liendo was named SEC Men’s Swimmer of the Week, Conor Gesing earned SEC Diver of the Week and Jonny Marshall snagged Men’s Freshman of the Week. On the women’s side, Emma Weyant was named Co-Swimmer of the Week, Ana Monroy earned Co-Diver of the Week and Bella Sims added her second Freshman of the Week honor to her collegiate resume.

Liendo placed first in his four events during last week’s win meet against No. 15 Virginia, posting B-cut times in the 50 Free (19.43) and the 100 Fly (46.99). His 19.49 ranks third in the nation and his 46.99 is the eight-fastest time in the nation. The Canadian native was also a member of the 200 medley and the 400 free relay A teams that took first. It is the first weekly conference honor for Liendo this season and the fourth of his career.

For the second time this season, Conor Gesing won SEC Diver of the Week after winning both diving events against No. 15 Virginia. The Pennsylvania native posted two personal bests after scoring a 364.05 in the 1-meter and a 407.93 in the 3-meter.

In his collegiate debut, Marshall finished in the top-two in all three of his events. The Ohio native finished first in the 200 Back after touching the wall in 1:45.82. He recorded a B-cut time of 47.33 in the 100 Back to finish second, and swam a 24.76 split in the 200 medley relay B team to place second with an overall time of 1:27.87. It’s the first Men’s Freshman of the Week award for Florida, and the first in Marshall’s career.

On the women’s side, Emma Weyant earned Co-Women’s Swimmer of the Week after recording two of the nation’s fastest times, posting three B-cut times and three top-two finishes against No. 1 Virginia last Friday. The junior recorded the nation’s fastest times in the 400 IM and 500 free after clocking a 4:07.51 and a 3:39.22, respectfully. The Sarasota, Florida native posted a personal best 1:45.16 in the 200 Free to finish in second. It is the first weekly honor of the season for Weyant and the first of her career. She shares the award with Arkansas’ Alessia Ferraguti.

Ana Monroy was named Co-Diver of the Week after placing first in both diving events in her collegiate debut against No. 1 Virginia. The freshmen scored a 319.05 in the 1-meter, which ranks second in the nation and scored a 318.38 in the 3-meter. She shares the honor with LSU’s Montserrat Gutierrez Lavenant.

Bella Sims notched her second Women’s Freshman of the Week after tallying a list of accomplishments against No. 1 Virginia. The Nevada native Posted B-cut times in all four of her events; 100 Back, 200 Back, 100 Fly, and 400 Yard Free Relay, finished in the top-two in all of her events, and clocked four of the nation’s top-two times. Sims recorded the nation’s fastest time in the nation in the 200 Back after swimming a 1:52.49 to finish in first as well as recorded the nation’s second-fasted time in the 100 Back after swimming a 51.79 to finish in second. She finished with a time of 52.09 in the 100 Fly to earn second place and post the third-fastest time in the nation, and anchored the A team 400 Free Relay team, who swam a 3:15.80 to place second. The 3:15.80 is the second-fastest time in the nation.

The Gators are off this week, before returning home on Friday, Oct. 27th to face Georgia in their first conference dual matchup of the season. The meet is set to start at 11 a.m. inside the O’Connell Center.
