Athens, Ga. – Sophomore diver Camyla Monroy captured the first gold medal of the 2025 SEC Swimming & Diving Championships on Monday at the University of Georgia’s Gabrielsen Natatorium.

Monroy was one of eight divers who advanced to the women’s 1-meter A final, where she finished with a score of 350.45, just shy of the program’s school record of 350.55 set by Maha Amer in 2022. She becomes the first Florida female since Ashley McCool in 2021 to be crowned the SEC women’s 1-meter champion.

Hear from the Gators

Head Coach Bryan Gillooly on Camyla’s performance:

“Obviously a huge start for the team and another great accolade for Camyla’s young career. She really showed something special tonight. This field was excellent, with Texas now in the SEC and a diver like Sophie Verzyl from USC who has been incredible this season. Camy rose to the occasion in a big way. Hats off to the entire field. We will enjoy the win tonight and get back to focusing on our intentions for the rest of the meet tomorrow.”

Sophomore Camyla Monroy on her win:

“I’m so happy. I still haven’t really processed what just happened, but I am so happy. This is a very important event to prepare for NCAA, and it gives me more confidence to go there and do my best.”
