Experienced diving duo returns to national stage.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Maha Amer and Leonardo Garcia both punched their tickets to the NCAA Championships during the second day of the 2023 NCAA Zone B Diving Championships at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center.
Amer will compete in the National Championships for a second consecutive year, qualifying in the 1-meter today with a combined prelim and final score of 596.90. Amer, who won silver in the 1-meter at the SEC Championships last month, was the first Gator diver to qualify in zones.
Garcia finished seventh in the 3-meter, racking up a 774.10 to earn a ticket to the National Championships for a fourth-straight season. With his qualification today and after an eighth-place finish last night in the 1-meter, Garcia will also compete in the 1-meter in Minneapolis.
Skip Donald finished 10th, scoring a 741.35 during both the prelims and finals. With a qualification in tomorrow’s platform, Donald could have a chance to compete in the 1-meter and 3-meter at the NCAA Championships.
In the women’s 1-meter prelims, Carina Lumia finished 22nd after tallying a 250.65. In the men’s 3-meter prelims, Elisha Dees finished 24th at 318.00, while Anton Svirskyi’s 289.50 slotted him in 30th.
Zone B action is set to continue tomorrow, starting at 11 a.m. with the women’s 3-meter and at 4 p.m. with the men’s platform. All action can be streamed on SECN+.
