Junior Reagan Walsh earned her first ever Southeastern Conference Player of the Week award.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida softball’s Reagan Walsh was named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week this week as announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon.
Walsh earned her first ever SEC Player of the Week award after a terrific week at the plate for the Gators (39-12, 14-7 SEC). The talented junior hit .500 (6-for-12) this week with four RBI and a pair of home runs en route to helping the Orange & Blue secure its sixth SEC series of the season with a pair of wins at No. 11 Georgia.
The Redondo Beach, Calif., native recorded a hit in all four games this week, including a pair of multi-hit games that extended her season total to 17 multi-hit games, and her multi-RBI game against No. 16 Florida State was her 15th of the year.
In addition, she extended her hit-streak out to eight games, just one shy of her season-long mark of nine, and has a team-leading 18-game reached base safely streak.
Overall on the season, Walsh ranks second in the SEC in batting average (.404), slugging percentage (.851) and home runs (16), while also ranking inside the top five in hits (57 – 5th), RBI (55 – 3rd) and doubles (13 – 4th). She also leads the league in total bases (120).
Walsh is the fourth different SEC Player of the Week recipient for the Gators this season as Jocelyn Erickson (Feb. 19), Korbe Otis (March 4) and Skylar Wallace (March 26) have also earned SEC Player of the Week accolades.
The four SEC Player of the Week honors this season for the program are the second most in program history, behind the five earned in 2013, but never before have the Gators produced four different SEC Player of the Week recipients in a single season.
