Wallace Tabbed Top 25 Finalist for USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year
OKLAHOMA CITY – Skylar Wallace of the Florida softball program was selected as a 2022 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Top 25 Finalist by USA Softball Wednesday afternoon. This is Wallace’s first appearance as a Top 25 finalist for the award.
The redshirt-junior infielder has produced at the plate for the Gators this season as she holds a .414 (48-for-116) batting average with 55 runs scored, 35 RBI and 36 stolen bases. The Woodstock, Ga. native is the only player in the country with at least 45 hits, 50 runs scored, 35 RBI and 35 stolen bases. She is also the only player in the country with at least 45 hits and 50 runs scored.
Wallace is also threatening to steal the program’s single-season stolen base record as she is just one shy from breaking Kelsey Stewart’s record of 36 stolen bases, which she achieved twice in her career during the 2013 and 2014 seasons.
Lauren Haeger & Kelly Barnhill are the only Gators to have won the prestigious award. Haeger earned the title in 2015 after leading Florida to the program’s second national championship and Barnhill secured the honor after having a historic season in 2017.
The Top 25 Finalists for the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year will be narrowed to 10 Finalists – released May 4 – before the Top 3 Finalists are revealed May 18. The 2022 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year will be announced prior to the NCAA Women’s College World Series, which is slated for June 2-10 at the Softball Capital of the World(r).
