Skylar Wallace, Kendra Falby and Korbe Otis were selected to the initial watch list for one of the most prestigious awards in collegiate softball.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – USA Softball revealed that a trio of Florida softball members made its 2024 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Top 50 Watch List late Wednesday morning.
Veterans Skylar Wallace and Kendra Falby along with newcomer Korbe Otis were named to the initial watch list for the prestigious award. The three Gators selected are also tied for the most representatives by a Southeastern Conference (SEC) member program as Arkansas, Georgia and LSU each had three players selected.
Wallace, a Top 3 finalist for the award in 2023, was named to the 2024 Preseason All-SEC Team along with Falby earlier today. Falby also garnered a spot on the 2023 USA Softball Player of the Year Top 50 Watch List, while Otis is making her first appearance on the list.
The SEC leads all athletic conferences with 21 athletes included followed by the Pac-12 Conference with 11, Big 12 Conference with 10 and Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) with seven. Also represented is the American Athletic Conference (AAC) with two athletes and the Big Ten Conference with one.
USA Softball will trim the list down to a Top 25 by May 1, which will be followed by a Top 10 announcement and the Top 3 finalists will be named by May 20. The 2024 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year will be announced prior to the start of the NCAA Women’s College World Series.
The 2024 season is officially set to begin Feb. 9, at 5:30 p.m. (ET) when Florida will take on Oregon State in Tampa, Fla. at the USF-Rawlings Invitational that is hosted by USF. The Gators first home game at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium is slated for Wednesday, Feb. 14, at 6 p.m. against Jacksonville.
