UF SB: Softball Falls To Ole Miss In Series Finale

Mia Williams and Jocelyn Erickson each blasted three-run home runs on Sunday.

OXFORD, Miss. – The No. 6/8 Florida softball team dropped its series finale on Sunday at No. 19 Ole Miss, falling to the Rebels, 8-6.

Despite the loss, the Gators (37-9, 9-6 Southeastern Conference) secured the conference series victory over Ole Miss (30-11, 7-8 SEC) in game two on Saturday.

It was a pitcher’s duel early, with both teams held scoreless through three.

Ole Miss broke the tie in the fourth, plating five runs on a pair of hits, including a two-out Rebel grand slam, before adding insurance with a solo shot in the bottom of the fifth to go ahead 6-0.

The Gators didn’t go down without a fight, however.

Taylor Shumaker and Korbe Otis tallied back-to-back one-out hits in the top of the sixth, before Mia Williams plated them both with her third home run against Ole Miss.

Williams has blasted a team-best 16 long balls this season and has recorded eight multi-RBI games, including in all three games versus the Rebels.

Both Korbe Otis and Williams are on team-best hitting streaks at seven and six games each, respectively.

Jocelyn Erickson made it a two-run game in the bottom of the seventh with a three-run home run, her 13th of the season and fourth in the last five games.

With two outs and two Gators on base and the go-ahead run at the plate, the Rebels’ center fielder made a diving grab to end Florida’s comeback bid.

Keagan Rothrock (10-3) took the loss in the circle.
