GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The ninth-ranked Florida softball team prepares for its third Southeastern Conference road series of the 2022 season as the team is set to take on Ole Miss this Thursday, Friday and Saturday in Oxford at the Ole Miss Softball Complex.
The Gators (31-9, 8-7 SEC) have currently won each of its previous two road series this season as the team won two of its three games at both Texas A&M & Auburn earlier this year. UF has won its last seven SEC regular season road series.
Overall, Florida has captured three of the five conference series played in so far this year.
Against the Rebels, the program also holds a 49-11 record all-time and a 22-7 record when playing in Oxford. The last time the two programs met was during the 2019 regular season in Oxford. Ole Miss bested the Gators in the series, 2-1, which also included a pair of extra-inning games.
Offensively for the Gators, Skylar Wallace enters the weekend with a .411 (44-for-107) average at the plate with 49 runs scored, 33 RBI and 33 stolen bases. The Woodstock, Ga. native is the only player in the country with at least 40 hits, 40 runs scored, 30 RBI and 30 stolen bases. She is also only one of five players in the country with at least 43 hits and 45 runs scored – Jocelyn Alo (Oklahoma), Grace Lyons (Oklahoma), Carli Spelhaug (Iowa St.) & Cora Bassett (Indiana).
Wallace is also threatening to steal the program’s single-season stolen base record as she is just three from tying Kelsey Stewart’s record of 36 stolen bases, which she set during the 2013 and 2014 season.
Overall, Florida holds a .328 batting average on the year. The mark currently sits as the second-best batting average in program history behind the .331 mark set during the 2010 season.
Florida is also the only program in the country to tout four players in the lineup with at-least 43 hits on the season. Freshman Kendra Falby (49), fifth year Hannah Adams (49), Wallace (44) and senior Cheyenne Lindsey (43) lead the way for the Gators with the most hits.
Ole Miss enters the week after a road trip to Lexington, Kentucky where they lost two out of the three games played. The Rebels took the first game of the series 7-6, but fell in the two following games 6-2 and 8-2 to close out the weekend.
At the plate they are led by senior Tate Whitley as she leads their program with a .447 average at the plate, 59 hits and 37 runs scored. In the circle, six different pitchers have seen action with Savannah Diederich leading the way in innings pitched (57.1), ERA (1.95) and strikeouts (70).
