GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The eighth-ranked Florida softball team is set to host its final Southeastern Conference regular season series of the 2022 season this Friday, Saturday and Sunday as the Gators welcome No. 7 Arkansas to Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium. Saturday, the program will recognize Hannah Adams, Natalie Lugo, Cheyenne Lindsey and Marissa Mesiemore for their contributions to the program.
Overall, Florida holds a 50-10 record over Arkansas in the all-time standings and a 27-5 record when playing at KSP Stadium. The last time the two programs met occurred during the 2019 season in Gainesville where the Gators swept the series 3-0, 8-0 (5) and 3-1. In addition, the Orange & Blue is also on a 30-game winning streak over the Razorbacks.
Offensively for the Gators, Skylar Wallace enters the weekend with a .407 (48-for-116) batting average with 56 runs scored, 35 RBI and 37 stolen bases. The Woodstock, Ga. native is the only player in the country with at least 45 hits, 50 runs scored, 35 RBI and 35 stolen bases.
She is also is only one of two players in the country with at least 45 hits and 50 runs scored – Jocelyn Alo (Oklahoma). Wallace’s 56 runs scored also leads the nation in the category.
This past Wednesday, Wallace eclipsed the program’s single-season stolen base record as she stole her 37th base of the season against USF. The swipe ended up not only breaking Kelsey Stewart’s record of 36 stolen bases, which she achieved twice in her career during the 2013 and 2014 seasons, but it also put enough pressure on the Bulls to make an errant throw that allowed Wallace to score the game’s only run from second.
In the circle, Elizabeth Hightower earned the complete-game shutout victory. The Monticello, Fla. native’s shutout was the third of the season and the 13th overall during her career.
Head Coach Tim Walton is on the verge of achieving 1,000 career wins, all at the Division I level, as he has won a 997 career games over 20 seasons as a head coach. The Cerritos, Calif. native spent his first three seasons as the head coach at Wichita State where he compiled a record of 123-64 and holds a record of 874-191 over the last 17 seasons as the head coach of the Gators.
When Walton reaches the historic milestone, he will join Florida volleyball Head Coach Mary Wise as the only two active head coaches at UF with 1,000 career wins.
