This is Olivia Miller’s first SEC Freshman of the Week award.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Monday afternoon the Southeastern Conference (SEC) selected Florida softball freshman left-handed pitcher Olivia Miller as this week’s SEC Freshman of the Week.
Miller earned the accolade after she secured her place in the Florida history books at the USF-Rawlings Invitational as she became the first freshman to throw a perfect game. After making her collegiate debut in relief the Saturday evening against Illinois State, the Orlando, Fla. native, received her first collegiate start in the circle Sunday afternoon against Bethune-Cookman and hurled the program’s eighth overall complete-game perfect game.
The talented left-handed pitcher hurled a gem against the Wildcats as she retired all 15 batters faced in the Gators 16-0 (5) run-rule. Miller retired five of the batters she faced via strikeout, five through groundouts and forced five flyouts on just 50 total pitches.
The Florida defense also provided Miller with the support needed to accomplish the feat as multiple plays were made out in the field to retire all of the opposition.
This the first SEC Freshman of the Week award that the program has earned since Feb.28, 2022 when Kendra Falby secured the accolade and this is the program’s 26th overall SEC Freshman of the Week award.
