Freshman Ava Brown was named D1Softball National Freshman of the Week and SEC Freshman of the Week for her outstanding performances against Alabama.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida’s Ava Brown has earned D1Softball National Freshman of the Week and SEC Co-Freshman of the Week honors on Tuesday following the Gators’ road series win at No. 11/10 Alabama to open SEC action.
Brown appeared in all three games, pitching in Florida’s 11-2 run-rule victory on Sunday and playing first base in the other games. In the circle, Brown threw a complete game with three strikeouts in five innings of work to pick up the win, improving to 9-1 this season.
From the plate, Brown went 4-for-8 with a home run four runs batted in. Brown notched her third and fourth multi-RBI games in the Gators’ two wins that clinched the series in Tuscaloosa.
The Montgomery, Texas, native tied her season-high in hits with two during game two of the series, during which she also pitched a complete-game win. She also hit her fifth home run of the season in the run-rule effort, which was only the fourth time in program history that UF has run-ruled Alabama.
Brown is currently riding a three-game hit streak, which is a season-long for the freshman.
The SEC honor marks Brown’s second Freshman of the Week recognition this season (Feb. 26) and the Gators’ fifth as a team, with Keagan Rothrock picking up a pair and Olivia Miller adding one. It is Brown’s first D1Softball Freshman of the Week recognition and the team’s third, with Rothrock posting two to date. A Florida freshman has won SEC Freshman of the Week every week so far this season.
