UF MTN: Six Singles Wins Propels Gators Past Wildcats

Strong singles play seals the deal as Gators take down Kentucky with ease
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Florida men’s tennis team defeated Kentucky 6-1 at the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex on Friday evening. The win marks the third conference win of the season and the seventh straight home win. Despite not clinching the doubles point, UF took courts one through six in singles play.

In doubles action, Adhithya Ganesan<https://floridagators.com/sports/mens-tennis/roster/adhithya-ganesan/16660> and Tanapatt Nirundorn<https://floridagators.com/sports/mens-tennis/roster/tanapatt-nirundorn/16114> faced Eli Stephenson and Jack Loutit. The Gator duo was left scoreless, dropping the match 6-0.

The doubles point was clinched after Kevin Edengren<https://floridagators.com/sports/mens-tennis/roster/kevin-edengren/16662> and JanMagnus Johnson<https://floridagators.com/sports/mens-tennis/roster/janmagnus-johnson/17174> saw Antoine Ghibaudo and Charlelie Cosnet on court three. The UF pair struggled in the match, falling 6-2.

Henry Jefferson<https://floridagators.com/sports/mens-tennis/roster/henry-jefferson/16661> and Jeremy Jin<https://floridagators.com/sports/mens-tennis/roster/jeremy-jin/16118> led Jaden Weekes and Martin Breysach 5-3 before the match was left unfinished.

On the singles side, Nirundorn got the Gators on the board first, securing a straight set 6-2, 6-3 win over Stephenson on court five. The win evened the score at 1-1.

Ganesan was next to log a point for Florida. The Florida vet faced No. 69 Ghibaudo on court one and found success early taking the first set 6-4. Ganesan remained focused in the second, earning a 6-2 win. Florida took the lead 2-1.

Freshman standout Niels Villard<https://floridagators.com/sports/mens-tennis/roster/niels-villard/17561> kept the momentum going on court six as he battled Breysach. Villard took the first set 6-3 and mirrored the same result in the second to extend the Gators lead to 3-1.

No. 62 Jin clinched the match for the Orange and Blue on court two. Jin faced No. 66 Weekes and cruised to 6-2 win in the first set. Jin left little room for doubt as he secured a 6-3 victory in the second set.

Both teams decided to play out the remaining two matches.

Johnson manned court three as he faced Loutit. Johnson quickly gained an advantage as he recorded a 6-2 win in the first set. The second set went into a tiebreak after being tied up at 6-6. Despite Loutit’s efforts, Johnson captured a 7-6 victory to push the Gators lead to 5-1.

Jefferson was the only Gator pushed into extended sets. Jefferson took the first set 6-3 over Cosnet, but Cosnet responded in the second with a 6-4 victory. In the third set, the two battled but it was Jefferson that came out successful taking the set 6-4.
