The Orange and Blue collect their third dual match win in as many days as they defeat SMU by a score of 5-2.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida Gators Men’s Tennis took down the SMU Mustangs at Alfred A. Ring Tennis complex on Sunday by a score of 5-2. The Orange and Blue finish their first homestand of the season with a 3-0 record in dual match play after their wins in Friday’s double-header against The Citadel and North Florida.
The Gators started the match off strong winning the doubles point with 6-2 victories coming from both Adhithya Ganesan/Tanapatt Nirundorn and JanMagnus Johnson/Nate Bonetto.
A strong performance by the sophomore Nirundorn (6-0, 6-0) put up the first singles point for the Gators. Nirundorn also won his singles match against UNF on Friday (6-0,6-2), making him 5-0 in his three doubles and two singles matchups on the weekend.
Ganesan shined yet again with a victory on court three in straight sets (6-3, 6-3), securing his third straight-sets singles victory in as many days.
Bonetto battled to a singles win on court 4, defeating SMU’s Jerry Barton 6-3, 6-7, 13-11. The tiebreaker third set was the final action of the day, and finished the Gators’ weekend on a winning note.
The Gators finish their opening homestand 3-0 in dual match play and now prepare for a long stretch of road matchups which will take them into conference play.
The Gators will hit the road Saturday, January 27, as they head to Chapel Hill, NC to take on the Demon Deacons of Wake Forest as a part of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s Kickoff Weekend.
