UF MTN: Gators Prepare for Big 12/SEC Challenge

Jefferson, Johnson, Nirundorn, and Edengren set to represent Florida at the Big 12/ SEC Challenge starting Friday, October 4.

GAINESVILLE, Fla- The Florida men’s tennis team will be heading to Waco, Texas, for the Big 12/SEC Challenge on Friday, Oct. 4 through Sunday, Oct. 6. Kevin Edengren<https://floridagators.com/sports/mens-tennis/roster/kevin-edengren/16662>, Henry Jefferson<https://floridagators.com/sports/mens-tennis/roster/henry-jefferson/16661>, JanMagnus Johnson<https://floridagators.com/sports/mens-tennis/roster/janmagnus-johnson/17174>, and Tanapatt Nirundorn<https://floridagators.com/sports/mens-tennis/roster/tanapatt-nirundorn/16114> will be competing for the Orange and Blue.

There will be five teams representing the Big 12 and the Southeastern Conference. Alongside Florida will be Alabama, Auburn, Texas, and Texas A&M. The Big 12 representatives are host school Baylor, Oklahoma State, Arizona, Texas Tech, and Arizona State.

The tournament begins Friday with doubles at noon and singles to follow. Each conference earns one point for every win and the conference with the most points at the end of the tournament takes the victory. There will be one MVP selected from each conference at the end of the event.

Johnson enters the weekend after recording a singles win at the ITA All-American Championships last week. Johnson currently holds a 2-3 tournament record and looks to improve over the weekend.

Jefferson will be competing in his second tournament of the fall season. In his first outing of the season, Jefferson posted a 3-0 singles record and logged a win over No. 83 Charlie Cosnet (Kentucky).

Edengren will also be competing in his second tournament of the season. Edengren is 2-1 on the season in singles after recording two wins at the SEC Challenge.

Nirundorn is 1-1 entering the Big 12/SEC Challenge and is looking to gain momentum against the upcoming opponents.

Doubles pair, Edengren/Johnson will pair up for the second time this fall. The two are 2-1 in doubles competition and are expecting to build on that success this weekend.

Nirundorn/Jefferson will make their doubles debut this weekend.
