Florida swept the Citadel and dominated UNF in the team’s return to Linder Stadium.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida Gators Men’s Tennis started their dual match schedule with decisive victories against The Citadel and North Florida in a double-header at Linder Stadium on Friday.
In the first match of the day, facing The Citadel, Florida opened with a 2-0 doubles victory. Star freshman tandem Aiden Kim and Jeremy Jin delivered a 6-1 rout, and a 6-3 decision from Tanpatt Nirundorn and Adhithya Ganesan secured the doubles point for the Gators.
The no. 57 ranked Kim continued to shine, winning his singles match 6-0, 6-3, and putting the first singles point on the board for the Gators.
Magnus Johnson (6-0, 6-2) and Jefferson (6-4, 6-2) won their respective matches putting the closing singles points on the board for Florida.
The teams agreed to finish all of the singles matches, leading to wins by Jin and Freshmen Adhithya Ganesan and Kevin Edengren, and securing a 7-0 sweep of the Bulldogs, all in straight sets.
After a short break, the Gators began their dual match against the Osprey. Florida won doubles by a hard-fought score of 2-1, including a 7-6 [5] win by Ganesan and Sophomore Tanapatt Nirundorn. Kim and Jin won their match 6-3 as the Florida first-years worked to secure the doubles point for the Orange and Blue.
Nirundorn put up the first singles point for Florida, sweeping UNF’s PJ Kotan in straight sets (6-0, 6-2). Ganesan followed shortly after with a sweep (6-3, 6-2), and Junior Nate Bonetto delivered the finishing touch for Florida, winning his singles match 7-6 [5], 6-3.
Again, the teams elected to finish all matches, leading to additional wins by Edengren and Kim, and a 6-1 triumph over the Osprey.
The Gators return to Linder Stadium at Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex on Sunday, January 19 for a dual with SMU.
