UF MTN: Florida Sweeps Middle Tennessee on Day 1 of ITA Kick-Off Weekend

The Gators defeated the Blue Raiders 4-0 to advance to the finals of ITA Kick-Off Weekend

New York City, N.Y. –  The Florida men’s tennis team opened ITA Kick-Off Weekend at Columbia Univeristy. The Gators defeated Middle Tennessee 4-0 on Saturday afternoon. Florida will face the winner of Columbia/Miami on Sunday at 2 p.m.

No. 16 Tanapatt Nirundorn<https://floridagators.com/sports/mens-tennis/roster/tanapatt-nirundorn/16114> and Henry Jefferson<https://floridagators.com/sports/mens-tennis/roster/henry-jefferson/16661> faced No.45 Ondrej Horak and Kairm Al-Amin on court one. The pair took control early and cruised to a 6-2 victory.
Adhithya Ganesan<https://floridagators.com/sports/mens-tennis/roster/adhithya-ganesan/16660> and Ben Weintraub<https://floridagators.com/sports/mens-tennis/roster/ben-weintraub/17051> followed suit, putting on a dominate display to log another 6-2 win over Jakub Kroslak and Shu Matsuoka.

Jeremy Jin<https://floridagators.com/sports/mens-tennis/roster/jeremy-jin/16118> and Kevin Edengren’s<https://floridagators.com/sports/mens-tennis/roster/kevin-edengren/16662> match over Rostislav Halfinger and Kacper Szymkowiak was left unfinished but was tied at 4-4 before the doubles point was decided.

On the singles side, the Gators kept their composure to secure the win. No. 41 Jin dominated from start to finish securing a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Matsuoka and pushing Florida’s lead to 2-0.

Johnson put the team within one match away from clinching the overall victory with another straight set victory. The Florida vet defeated Horak 6-2, 6-4 in his first dual season win of the season.

Ganesan delivered a clutch performance to secure the fourth and final point for the Orange and Blue. Ganesan defeated No. 98 Al- Amin in a three-set battle. After taking the opening set 6-3, Al-Amin responded taking the second 6-4 to even the match. However, Ganesan regrouped in the final set and sealed the win 6-1.

Florida also led on the two courts that didn’t finish their singles matches, with Jefferson dropping his first set to Kroslak 6-2 and taking the second set 6-2. Jefferson led 4-3 in the third before leaving his match unfinished.

Bradley Paliska<https://floridagators.com/sports/mens-tennis/roster/bradley-paliska/17049> also led taking the first set 7-6 over Igor Berranger. The match was knotted up at 2-2 before going unfinished.
