UF MGOLF | Lin Tied for Solo Lead, Gators T3 at Southern Highlands

Yuxin Lin tied his career-low with a 64 (-8) to sit T1 with Florida T3 at 5-under.

LAS VEGAS – Yuxin Lin highlighted day one of the Southern Collegiate for the No. 7/11 Florida men’s golf team tying his career-low round to end tied for the solo lead on Sunday.

He posted a 6-under bogey-free front nine that concluded with an eagle on nine, a par-5 of 592 yards. It marked his second of the season. Through the first nine holes, he went par-birdie-birdie-par-birdie-par-birdie-par-eagle. The senior tied his career-low round with a 64 (-8) he last set at the Colonial Collegiate in 2021.

Lin is in a three-way tie for first with Pepperdine’s Sam Choi and UNC’s Austin Creaser. Lin, who was paired with Creaser on day one, erased a bogey on 10 with back-to-back birdies and then made his seventh on 16 to tie for the tournament lead. The individual champion will receive an exemption into the Shriners Children’s Open, which will take place Oct. 12-15, 2023, at TPC Summerlin in Las Vegas.

Florida shot a 283 (-5) and is tied for 3rd with Texas and five strokes back from Pepperdine (-10) as North Carolina leads at 17-under.

Making his first start in the lineup, Giovanni Manzoni posted the second-best round for UF with a 1-under 71. Ranked No. 10 in the Arnold Palmer Cup Rankings, after he was 1-over with a bogey on 12, he went birdie-par-par-birdie-par-par to close. The 5th year is tied for 21st.

Tied for 45th is Ricky Castillo and Quentin Debove (I) with round one scores of 73 (+1). They are followed by Fred Biondi (T61) and John DuBois (T82).

The Gators tee off tomorrow at 12:50 p.m. ET paired with Illinois and New Mexico.
