Florida was led by Parker Bell (T14, -1) and Ian Gilligan (T17, E) in the second fall tournament.
CHICAGO – The Florida men’s golf team finished the second fall tournament at the Fighting Illini Collegiate on Sunday, finishing tied for 9th at Olympia Fields Country Club.
After the opening round on Friday, the tournament schedule was altered to finish the remaining 36-holes with continuous play on Saturday due to scheduled storms in the area. The final group of Arizona State, Georgia Tech and the Gators had two holes remaining, which was completed Sunday morning.
Florida tied for 9th with Florida State and Texas Tech with a team score of 850 (+10). Georgia Tech won the event at 12-under 828.
Parker Bell owned a team-best finish at T14 behind a 54-hole score of 1-under 209. He posted all three rounds of par or better; 69-70-70. The junior averaged 3.00 (E) on par3s and 4.67 (-2) on par5s.
A stroke behind Bell was Ian Gilligan at T17 with an even par 210. He had two rounds of under par with an opening round of 2-under 68 and final round of 1-under 69. Gilligan had marks of 2.82 (-2) on par3s and 4.67 (-2) on par5s. He finished tied for 3rd in the field with 12 birdies.
The rest of the lineup featured Matthew Kress (T53) and Zack Swanwick (T55) followed by Rylan Shim (T60), who was competing as an individual.
Florida heads to the Barbara Nicklaus Cup (Oct. 7-8) at Muirfield Village Golf Club, which will feature stroke play and match play with the Gators women’s golf program.
