Gators Conclude Regular Season Tomorrow, Enter Five Back off the Lead
Florida shot a 2-under second round and enter five shots back of leader Louisville with four Gators inside the top-8.
NAPLES, Fla. – The No. 12 Florida men’s golf team shot a round two of 2-under on day two of the Calusa Cup on Monday.
The Gators made a four-shot improvement from the opening round and trail five shots behind leader Louisville (-5) for the final 18-holes of the regular season finale tomorrow. Both UF and the Cardinals are the only teams shooting par or better as Purdue (+6) and UCLA (+8) are in third and fourth. Florida will tee off tomorrow’s final round at 9 a.m. from Calusa Pines Golf Club.
All five Florida golfers are T22 or better, led by freshman Zack Swanwick in a tie for 5th. He is 1-under through 36-holes and just one of six in the field that is under par after two rounds.
Three Gators in Ian Gilligan, Luke Poulter and Jack Turner are all tied for 8th. Both Gilligan and Poulter turned in rounds of 71 (-1) today. After a late stretch of three consecutive bogeys on holes 11-13, Poulter ended with three birdies over the last five holes.
Making a seven-shot improvement from round one, Matthew Kress was the third Gator to end in the red with a 71 (-1). He climbed 15 spots and sits T22.
After the Calusa Cup, Florida begins the first part of the postseason at the SEC Championship (April 23-27) at St. Simons Island, Ga. at Sea Island Golf Club. Following the conference tournament, the Gators will learn its NCAA Regional selection on April 30, live on Golf Channel.
