UF MGOLF | Gators Complete Opening Round of Spring Opener

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The Florida men’s golf team completed the opening round of the spring season at the Southwestern Invitational on Monday, the Gators are tied for 8th and are slated to tee off round two at 12 p.m. ET tomorrow.

UF had a first round team score of 293 (+9) at Sherwood Country Club and are tied with Cal in a tournament that features seven top-25 teams. San Diego State leads the event at 8-under.

Competing as an individual this week, Matthew Kress had the low round for Florida today with a bogey-free 2-under 69. The Saratoga, California native is tied for 5th and was one of just 15 golfers to shoot under in the first round. He made eagle on the par-5 (573 yards) 4th, his first of the season.

In the lineup, it was freshman Zack Swanwick who posted the lowest counting score behind an even-par 71. Through 10 rounds in his first collegiate season, five have been for par or better. He is tied for 16th.
Senior Ian Gilligan is inside the top-25 at T23, he shot 1-over 73 in his first set of 18-holes. After sitting +3 after six holes, he went bogey-free the final 12 holes with two birdies.

Rounding out the lineup is Jack Turner (T35, +3), Luke Poulter (T50, +5) and Parker Bell (T68, +9).
