UF MGOLF | Florida Tied for Seventh After Day One of SEC Fall Preview

The Gators used a 12-under performance in round two to make its way back up the leaderboard.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Florida men’s golf team is currently tied for 7th through one day of the SEC Fall Preview at the Country Club of Birmingham on Monday.

The Gators (-11) had a 13-shot improvement from round one to two with a 12-under round and moving up the leader board heading into the final round of stroke play tomorrow. After stroke play tomorrow, the top two finishers will square off in the final groupings of the day, while the 12 other teams will face each other in East vs. West Match Play format. Auburn is leading the field of conference teams with score of 30-under.

Matthew Kress led the lineup with back-to-back rounds in the 60s (68-67) totaling his third of the season in four total rounds. He has made 13 birdies over 36 holes and is tied for 8th at 7-under, trailing the solo leader, Gordon Sargent (Vanderbilt) by six shots.

The trio of Parker Bell (68), John DuBois (70) and Luke Poulter (67) all bounced back from over-par round ones to shooting under in the second set of 18. DuBois made a six-shot improvement while the others cutoff five strokes.

Tied for 24th at 3-under, Bell’s latter round of the day was a bogey-free outing as Poulter only carded one, on hole 18. Poulter is -1 through 36 holes in T31st.

Also tied for 59th with DuBois is Ian Gilligan rounding out the lineup.
