UF MGOLF: DuBois, Gators Leap into Second, Trail Four Strokes from Lead

John DuBois tied for the third lowest round in SEC Tournament history with a 64 (-6) on Thursday.

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – The Florida men’s golf team shot 11-under as John DuBois’ career round moved the Gators into second in day two of the SEC Championship on Thursday at Sea Island Golf Club.

The Gators (2, -9) turned in the second lowest round of the tournament – Tennessee 12-under today – and ended its round in first as Vanderbilt (1, -13) pushed back ahead to close out the day. Florida combined for a score of 269, tying ninth lowest team round all-time and second this season – lowest was 267 at VyStar Gators Invitational.

DuBois turned in a career performance as his round of 64 (-6) tied for third lowest round in SEC Championship history, which was last set by Segundo Pinto of Arkansas last year. The conference record holder is Bobby Waytt who shot a 61 for Alabama in 2014.

The round tied the program low at the conference tournament as Alejandro Tosti last had a 64 in the first round in 2017. A Windermere, Fla. native, he sank seven birdies compared to only one bogey. DuBois went 2-under on the front and bogey-free -4 on the back with three straight birdies on 14-16. He jumped 32 spots behind his career low to sit T2 and two strokes from the individual leader Phichaskn Maichon of Texas A&M.

Fred Biondi and Ricky Castillo both mirrored each other for the second straight day as they carded 68s (-2) to tie for 16th. Castillo went 3-under on the front with back-to-back birdies on seven and eight. Biondi nearly chipped in an eagle from the bunker on 15 as his birdie moved Florida in a tie with Vandy and erased a nine-stroke advantage the Commodores had.

Shooting his second straight round under-par, Yuxin Lin posted a 69 (-1). He sank a birdie at the turn and nearly went bogey-free until the 18th hole. The junior is T8 and 3-under for the tournament.

Cutting three strokes off from round one, Tyler Wilkes finished with an even 70. After a bogey to start the back nine, he pared seven of the last nine holes with two straight birdies on 13 and 14.

UF tees off the final round of stroke play tomorrow at 9:40 a.m. ET as the top-8 teams will advance to match play over the weekend.
