Florida places 14 men’s swimmers on the CSCAA All-American team for the 2019-20 season.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Fourteen University of Florida men’s swimmers claimed College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) All-American accolades as the association announced the honors on Wednesday morning.
Due to the cancellation of the 2020 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships, the CSCAA decided to change its criteria for the award, as “all relays achieving ‘A” standards, individuals selected to the NCAA Championships, and divers entered in uncontested events from the Zone C Diving Qualification meet” were named Division I All-Americans for the 2019-20 season. Since 1985, the top-eight finishers at the NCAA Championships earned first-team distinctions, while consolation finishers received honorable mention recognition.
Florida’s 14 swimmers, which tied for the fifth-most in the nation and the most in the SEC, reeled in 38 total honors.
Individually, Kieran Smith, Grant Sanders and Robert Finke each earned three individual honors for their trio of NCAA event qualifications. Khader Baqlah will end his career with an All-American honor in three of his four seasons as Gator.
Clark Beach, Will Davis and Marco Guarente receive the honor for the second-straight season after their performance at last year’s NCAA Championships.
Additionally, this year’s honor marks the first career All-American distinction for Isaac Davis, Miguel Cancel, Eric Friese, Brennen Gravley, Dillon Hillis, Gerry Quinn and Kevin Vargas.
Florida’s 200 free, 400 free, 800 free and 400 medley relay also earned honors as the squads met the time standard set by the NCAA this season.
The Gators finished the 2019-20 campaign by accomplishing their ultimate goal of winning their eighth-straight and 41st-overall SEC Championship on Feb. 18-22. Over the five days of competition in Auburn, Florida accumulated 1,194 points with 15 medals and five event titles. Additionally, the team set 39 new personal-best times and 17 top-10 program swims.
Their streak of eight-straight gives the Gators lone possession of the third-longest title streak in SEC Championship history.
