UF MBK: Andersen Wins Elite 90 Award

Andersen holds the highest GPA at the Division I men’s basketball championship site

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Florida men’s basketball graduated guard Bennett Andersen was recognized on Friday as the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Elite 90 winner at the end of the team’s open practice at the Alamodome in San Antonio.

Andersen graduated in 2024 with a 3.98 GPA in Industrial and Systems Engineering, and is currently in the Master of Science in Management program. He spent three seasons as a manager with the Florida men’s basketball program before joining the roster as a walk-on in 2023 and scoring his first point in his collegiate debut.

The Tampa, Fla., native has scored a pair of memorable baskets in the 2025 postseason. In the SEC Tournament semifinal, Andersen’s driving score vs. Alabama gave Florida the SEC Tournament’s scoring record in the 104-82 win. He added another in the Sweet 16 vs. Maryland, putting back an offensive rebound.

Andersen is the fourth Gator across all sports to win the Elite 90 honor, joining Alex McMurtry (gymnastics) and Josie Kuhlman (women’s tennis) both in 2017 and Emily Lortz (lacrosse) in 2024.

He co-founded and serves on the executive committee of the Gainesville chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace, an organization that builds, assembles and delivers beds to children and families in need.

The Elite 90 award honors the exceptional achievements of student-athletes. This prestigious accolade is given to those who have not only excelled at a national championship level in their sport but have also achieved the highest academic standards among their peers. The Elite 90 is proudly awarded to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA at the finals site for each of the NCAA’s 90 championships.

Eligible student-athletes are sophomores or above academically who have participated in a sport for at least two years with their school. All ties are broken by the number of credits completed.
