UF LAX: No. 11 Florida Looks to Complete a Perfect West Coast Trip Against the Aztecs

The Gators have outscored their opponents 43-13 on this road trip

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Florida lacrosse team will play their third and final game of this west coast trip, as they take on the San Diego State Aztecs on Friday. First draw is set for 3 p.m. PST and 6 p.m. EST at Aztec Lacrosse Field. The game will be streamed on San Diego State’s YouTube channel.

The Gators sit at 4-2, riding a four-game winning streak, with their most recent win coming over UC Davis on Wednesday by a score of 21-7. Maggi Hall led the way with nine points, setting a program record with eight assists in the game. Emily Heller had four goals, and Liz Harrison set a school record with 19 draw controls. Overall 12 Gators scored, marking the third straight game 10 or more different players have found the back of the cage.

This is the second career meeting between the two schools, with the last one coming back on Feb. 20, 2015 where the Gators were victorious by a score of 17-7 in Gainesville. The Aztecs will be joining the Gators next season in the Big 12 for its first season.

Analyzing the Aztecs
San Diego State comes into this meeting on a four-game losing streak with a 1-5 overall record. In their last outing on Sunday, they lost a close one on the road to High Point by a score of 17-14. The Aztecs are coached by Kylee White who enters her 13th season as head coach. They are led offensively by Sara Toner (13 goals, two assists), Jenna McDermott (13 goals, one assist) and Frankie Garcia (11 goals, two assists) who all have double digit goals.

Hall and Heller Heroics
Hall and Heller both reached career milestones last game, as Hall became the 12th player in program history to reach 200 points, and Heller became the 18th player in school history to reach 100 career goals. Hall has 30 points and is tied for 10th in assists in the country with 17. Heller has 14 goals this season, with two hat-tricks.

Harrison Moving Up
Harrison has 49 draw controls over her last four games, pushing her to fourth in the country in draw controls per game overall with 10.17. The senior currently has 271 draw controls in her career.
