Florida has now had 20 players earn 41 Tewaaraton nominations
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Senior midfielder Emily Heller was named to the 2023 Tewaaraton Watch List in the latest round of additions, as the Tewaaraton Foundation announced Thursday.
Heller – a Babylon, N.Y. native – earns her first bid to the Watch List, joining teammates Emma LoPinto, Danielle Pavinelli and Sarah Reznick who garnered the distinction prior to the season.
The senior earned the prestigious honor after registering 19 goals, 30 draw controls, 22 groundballs and 13 caused turnovers in the first 10 games of the year.
Heller also has a shooting percentage of .543, which ranks fifth in the American Athletic Conference.
She has registered three hat tricks this season, including a four-goal performance in Florida’s last outing – tying her career-best mark. The midfielder also recorded a career game against Mercer on March 22, finishing the matchup with five caused turnovers and five groundballs.
Heller sits eighth in the league in both caused turnovers per game and groundballs per game and also ranks 10th in draw controls per contest.
For her efforts, she has earned three AAC weekly honors, including Midfielder of the Week on March 27.
Overall, the Gators have had 20 players earn 41 Tewaaraton Award Nominations in the 14-year history of Florida lacrosse, with five finalists.
This year marks the 22nd anniversary of the award, which annually honors the top male and female college lacrosse players in the United States. The selection committees are made up of premier collegiate coaches and are appointed annually by the Tewaaraton Foundation.
