GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The sixth-seeded Florida lacrosse team is moving on to the NCAA Quarterfinals after defeating Jacksonville 17-3 on Sunday afternoon at Donald R. Dizney Stadium.
The Gators improve to 18-2 in the 2021 campaign – one win off tying the program record – while Jacksonville’s season comes to a close at 12-2.
Florida has now won 15-straight games, dating back to the March 13 loss against JU.
The Gators were led on the offensive front by Grace Haus, who notched a career-high seven goals in the victory. Brianna Harris and Shannon Kavanagh each registered a hat trick in the game, while Paisley Eagan posted two goals against the Dolphins. Maggi Hall and Kassidy Bresnahan both found the back of the cage once to round out Florida’s scorers.
Harris dished out a team-best three helpers in the game – her first being the 200th point of her career. She is just the 10th Gator to hit that mark. Hall, Haus, Kavanagh and Danielle Pavinelli each recorded one assist in the win.
Florida dominated the draw circle on Sunday, winning 15-of-22 draws. Kavanagh led the way with seven draws, while Eagan and Harris notched three and two, respectively.
The Gator defense held the nation’s sixth-best offense to just three goals on the afternoon. The squad registered eight caused turnovers on the day, led by two from Becky Browndorf – tying her career-best mark.
Browndorf also led the way with a career-best four groundballs, while Kaitlyn Dabkowski, Kavanagh and Sarah Reznick each registered three groundballs in the game.
Reznick was stellar in the cage for Florida, coming up with nine saves while only allowing three goals for a .750 save percentage. That mark tied her career-best, which she has hit three times already this season.
The Gators head to Syracuse, N.Y. to take on the Orange in a quest for Florida’s second NCAA semifinal berth. Date and time will be announced later this evening after all the second round games have concluded.

How It Happened
* The Gators came out the locker room hot, scoring four goals in the first seven minutes to force a Jacksonville timeout.
* Just under four minutes into the game, Paisley Eagan converted on a free position attempt to give Florida the advantage. Grace Haus followed with a score of her own on a pass from Danielle Pavinelli, then Haus dished out a helper to Brianna Harris for her first goal of the day to put the Gators up 3-0.
* Maggi Hall found the back of the cage just 23 seconds later to give Florida the 4-0 advantage and force a timeout by the Dolphins.
* Out of the timeout, Jacksonville got on the board, but the Gators answered with six-straight goals to take the 10-1 lead. Shannon Kavanagh posted her first goal of the day to kick off the run, followed by back-to-back scores from Haus to give her a hat trick.
* Kavanagh found the back of the cage once again at the 11:56 mark in the first half, giving Florida the 8-1 advantage, then Eagan and Haus each converted on a free position attempt to put the Gators up nine.
* Jacksonville scored the final goal of the half with 3:17 left, but Florida took an eight-goal lead into the locker room.
* Coming out of the locker room, Kassidy Bresnahan scored her first of the day to give Florida the 11-2 lead with 27:10 remaining.
* Jacksonville responded five minutes later to pull within eight at 11-3, but that would be the team’s final goal of the day as Florida’s defense held the Dolphins scoreless for the final 22 minutes of the game.
* The Gators closed out the game on a 6-0 run, kicked off by Harris’ second goal of the game at the 20:01 mark, while Kavanagh followed with her third of the day to give Florida the 13-3 lead and a running clock.
* With 15:25 left in the game, Harris notched a hat trick of her own, followed by three-straight goals from Haus in the final eight minutes to secure the 17-3 victory for the Gators.

I thought offensively we shared the ball really well and put the ball in the back of the net at critical times. I mean I can’t say enough about our defense and what a job they did. They just held them, I mean they’re just amazing. So I don’t even know what else to say. They just did an amazing job. And then Sara (Reznick) in the goal cage. Huge day for Sara, an All-American day without a doubt. Overall, top to bottom I couldn’t be more pleased with where we are.”
