Madison Waters, Cate Isaacson and Elyse Finnelle all received honors after their play this week.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The awards keep coming in for the Florida lacrosse team, as the Gators brought home three of the five AAC weekly awards this week. Madison Waters received Midfielder of the Week, Cate Isaacson earned Freshman of the Week, and Elyse Finnelle was named Goalkeeper of the Week for their play over these past two games. Florida went 2-0, outscoring Liberty and Vanderbilt by a combined score of 43-8.
Waters earns her first midfielder of the week nod as a Gator. The senior had six goals this week, scoring three goals each in games against Liberty and Vanderbilt. The former USC Trojan is now tied for the team high in hat-tricks this season with six, and has 14 in her career. Waters displayed grit this week, scooping a season high three ground balls on Saturday against Vanderbilt. The Bayport, N.Y. native is fourth on the team in points (29), made up of 23 goals and six assists on a .622 shot percentage. Waters has recorded a point in 21 consecutive games, good for second longest on the team.
Isaacson was presented her first career freshman of the week accolade, and the first one the Gators have received as a team this season. The Worthington, Ohio native totaled four points this week on two goals and two assists, setting a career high three points on Saturday against the Commodores. Isaacson displayed her skill in that game, scoring a behind the back goal early in the fourth quarter. The freshman tied a career high two goals on Saturday, and now has two multi goal games this season. The midfielder leads the team in points amongst freshman with 12, and is tied for the most goals with eight on a .571 shooting percentage.
Finnelle claims her first goalkeeper of the week award, after showcasing her reflexes these last two games. The sophomore only allowed one goal in two games, saving 13 of 14 shots (.929 save percentage), including coming in for relief in the second quarter on Saturday against Vanderbilt and stopping seven shots. The Deale, Md. native has recorded at least five saves four times this season, with 59 saves overall on a .518 save percentage.
The 10th ranked Gators have now been represented on the AAC weekly awards for six consecutive weeks now. They look to earn their 12th consecutive win, and improve to 3-0 in conference play as they travel to Greenville, N.C. to take on East Carolina on Saturday at 12 p.m.
