UF LAX: Four Gators Earn Big 12 Player of the Week Honors

Celeste Forte (Defender), Clark Hamilton (Freshman), Georgia Hoey (Goalkeeper) and Gianna Monaco (Attacker) were named players of the week, as Florida lacrosse took four of five weekly awards.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida lacrosse had four players named Big 12 Players of the Week, announced Tuesday afternoon.

Celeste Forte (Defender of the Week), Clark Hamilton (Freshman of the Week), Georgia Hoey (Goalkeeper of the Week) and Gianna Monaco (Attacker of the Week) each earned recognition for their contribution to the Gators going 1-0 this past week, with an 18-11 victory over USF last Tuesday.

Celeste Forte – Defender of the Week – Manorville, N.Y.
Forte tallied one caused turnover against USF, holding her matchup, Juliana George to zero points and just two shots. George came into the contest averaging four points per game through the first three games. Forte has totaled six ground balls, four caused turnovers and one draw control through four starts, logging at least one ground ball or caused turnover in all four games. It is her first defender of the week honor of her career.

Clark Hamilton – Freshman of the Week – Powder Springs, Ga.
Hamilton notched her second hat-trick of the season, scoring three goals and scooping one ground ball. The Powder Springs, Ga. native ranks second on the team with nine goals, converting on .600 percent of her shots (9-for-15). Hamilton has two games this season with a 1.000 shooting percentage, highlighted by five goals in her home debut against Kennesaw State. It is her first freshman of the week honor.

Georgia Hoey – Goalkeeper of the Week – Fairfield, Conn.
Hoey earns her second goalkeeper of the week award of the season after a seven save and two ground ball performance last Tuesday. The graduate student has now totaled five or more saves in three games this season, good for a total of 26 saves with a .473 save percentage. Hoey’s nine ground balls leads the Gators, corralling two or more in every game. This is her fourth career goalkeeper of the week honor.

Gianna Monaco – Attacker of the Week – Mount Laurel, N.J.
Monaco had a career game against USF, scoring five goals and dishing out one assist, good for career highs in goals and points. The junior only needed six shots to score her five goals, as she has a .500 shooting percentage through four games. The Mount Laurel, N.J. native leads the Gators in goals (13) and points (15) this season, mounting 12 goals over her last three games. Along with her three hat-tricks, Monaco has caused four turnovers in four games. This is her first career player of the week honor.

The fifth-ranked Gators are back in action this Saturday against No. 18 James Madison in the Crown Lacrosse Classic at 11 a.m. in Charlotte.
